The Black Farmers’ Market strives to create a space where Black farmers and entrepreneurs feel safe, supported, and valued. We make decisions consistently centering the voices and experiences of our members, partners, and staff as we work to grow and sustain the market.

For the 2021 market season, we are looking for members who believe in our mission, goals, and vision. We are prioritizing Black farmers and producers and crafters/artisans who support Black farmers through their work. Applications for the 2021 season are closed.

On less than an acre of land we are raising chickens and organically grown vegetables, herbs, and medicinal plants. Being trade union members of The Black Farmers’ Market NC has boosted our sales and increased our exposure and customer base. Our Vetting Process

All vendors must complete an online application. Members and guests are selected based on their uniqueness and ability to meet rules and requirements of the market. For the 2021 season, applications will be reviewed by the Black Farmers’ Market Advisory Board with final decisions being made by the planning team of directors.

Membership

BFM Trade Union Members are a group of farmers, crafters, and artisans who grow or produce their own goods/products. Beginning in the 2021 market season, all members will be selected prior to beginning the season and the market will be producer ONLY. Guest vendors will be selected on a rolling basis based on fit within the market and alignment with rules and mission.

Do you offer space to community groups at the market?

Community groups are welcome to request space at the Black Farmers’ Market. Pre approval of at least 3-5 days prior to the market is mandatory. Community groups will be selected based on alignment with the mission of The BFM and Black August in the Park. To inquire about space, please submit the contact form below.

What types of businesses are welcome to become members?

The BFM welcomes Black owned businesses from a variety of industries. Priority is given to farmers/producers and those who are the original producers of their own products. Please click on the apply now button to learn more. Vendor applications for the 2021 market season are currently open. Applications close on December 31, 2021.

What is the annual membership fee for the Black Farmers’ Market?

The 2021 annual membership for farmers and producers is $200. The vendor fee for meat and seafood vendors is $350. This does not include daily event set up fees.

How do I become a member of the Black Farmers’ Market?

At the beginning of market seasons, to become a member of The BFM, each interested vendor must complete an application online. There is no application fee. Vendor categories include:

How long will it be until I am notified about the status of my application?

Applicants will be notified on decisions for membership via email on February 5, 2021.

Can I share a space at the market with another business owner?

No. Sharing of spaces is not permitted.

Can food trucks participate in the Black Farmers’ Market?

Black owned food trucks are welcome to participate however there is a different pricing structure. Please complete the form below to express interest. Food trucks who purchase produce from partner Black Farmers will receive a discount.
